On with the heads!

So-- I've packed my body parts in preparation for Sock Summit 2011.
Went out to Portland Store Fixtures (love to browse there)and picked up 5 stryrofoam heads. I've already got hands and feet and torsos to show off all of the knitted samples of our knitting patterns (at least MOST of the knitted samples).

So we are going to have a pretty full booth (#425). We have Knitting patterns, Bambu 7 cone yarn, Double Bambu, and our new Springy Bambu (Bambu 7 + some nylon/spandex) PERFECT for socks!! I love the feel of the knitted fabric-- it has the Bamboo softness, and the spring-back-ness of the spandex. I had several test knitters try it out before hand, so we have some hints and tips as well.

Also have some elastic yarns, reflective tape, notions, needles and hooks and books. So, being mostly packed, I'm feeling that "good tired" and "almost ready" which I think will last well into the actual event!

Looking forward to seeing everyone there-- oh, and I also have some helpers for the booth-- so I will be in and out and able to run errands/re-stock etc. So happy that this wonderful event is in my home town!

Back Yard Beauties!

Our backyard in Spring has bright spots of color. The first photo is the azalea that lives on the sunny side of the garage/sun room. So saturated with color it was hard for me to photograph.

Next the Vinca. I love this ground cover.. it blooms over and over.

The Daphne lives close to the Vinca.. its just coming into full bloom.

Finally the Hyacinths against the beautifully neutral bark of the Mountain Ash trees.

Brooklyn Botanical Garden's Spring Flowers

One of the first days of really nice weather in Brooklyn this year. We were lucky to be there to attend our nephew's bar mitzvah. Such fun and a gorgeous day!

The magnolia was just gorgeous against the blue sky and barely blooming trees in the background. I think just about everyone in Brooklyn was there!

I call these Daffodils. Never was sure when to use other names like narcissus... I never saw the labels that matched these.. Still very pretty and fields of them all over. Love Spring!

The waterfall to the right, and Mendenhall glacier (see that deep blue!) to the left. The leaves were forming and created little green "roses". Also at Mendenhall glacier. The totem poles are in Ketchikan.

We hiked outside of Juneau at the Mendenhall glacier. The flowers were pretty and the Alder trees were loaded with buds.

I just thought these leaves were pretty-- with their red-tinged edges.

Autumn Leaves

Beautiful reds on the Paperbark maple in the backyard this year. We were able to save this tree through a temporary move when we built the garage in back. Looks like it loves its new spot!

New Mexico

I decided I've really been remiss on posting some of the scenic photos.
These were taken outside of Albuquerque when my son and I went down to check out University of New Mexico. It was a gorgeous evening. Sorry to say I don't remember the name of the hill we went to.

Lakedale Resort

So I have a thing about evening light. We stayed at Lakedale Resort on San Juan Island for a few days earlier this week.

These are views from the Lake House-- we got in last minute since someone else cancelled. It worked out well for us! We had a very pleasant few days.

This last is from the hike up Young Hill from the parking lot at the English Camp. Wonderful view and interesting trees.

The Swifts at Chapman School

OK. I've not tried this before but I have some video (about 59MB) from watching the swifts at Chapman School in Portland, OR and its pretty cool. So going to try and upload it here! (I ended up loading it to YouTube), so here's that link:

This portion of the video captured the moment when they really start diving into the school's chimney. We also have another dramatic moment when a predator visits the scene. Its unedited and you can hear the crowd's reaction. Enjoy.

Pacific Ocean views

I love the Pacific Ocean. The first two photos were taken along the Washington coast. in October 2005. Love that sky.

And the last one from one of my favorite spots along the Oregon Coast. Manzanita beach from Neahkahnie Meadows. I guess I need to get out and take more photos... this one is from March 2003.
